Courting Controversy
Listen on Spotify, Apple or YouTube
MEER director Peter Dynes hosts founder and director Dr. Ye Tao discussing climate change, urban heat adaptation, and climate restoration using surface reflection technology and more.
Dr. Ye Tao discusses the ongoing heat waves in West Africa, as well as the issues they are having with power cuts in Sierra Leone. In addition, we revisit one of Dr. Tao's early symposium presentations and delve into the controversial topics he discussed and information he shared in 2020. He provides more detailed explanation on topics including the aerosol masking paradox that our civilization currently faces.

Confronting a “silent killer"
This peer-reviewed article examines how extreme heat acts as a “silent killer” in urban West Africa and explores innovative, low-cost cooling interventions through the MEER pilot in Freetown, Sierra Leone. The study highlights lived experiences of heat vulnerability among low-income residents and evaluates how surface cooling technologies and community-oriented design can reduce heat exposure in informal settlements.
