MEERTalk: Creative Strategies for the Climate Crisis with Clare Farrell
In this talk, Clare Farrell will discuss her journey from helping to develop the creative foundations of Extinction Rebellion to exploring what a new political and cultural framework for the 21st century could look like. Drawing from a whole-system view of the climate crisis, the conversation will examine how social movements emerge, which design elements proved effective (and which did not), and why deeper shifts in culture, assemblies, and collective governance may be the next step. Clare will also reflect on the growing authoritarian direction of global politics and the importance of using present conditions to build meaningful change, rather than remaining stuck in analysis alone.
Clare Farrell is an active citizen, devoting her creativity, energy, and occasionally her personal liberty to confronting climate collapse and the wider environmental crisis. As a co-founder of Extinction Rebellion, she helped coordinate the creative team behind the movement’s name, identity, and messaging during its launch in 2018. She is also a co-editor of the bestselling book This Is Not a Drill: An Extinction Rebellion Handbook and has worked with XR’s UK media team as a spokesperson. Clare has a professional background in the UK fashion industry, with experience across the high street, luxury, and ethical sectors. For more than a decade, she has educated on the intersections of fashion, ethics, and sustainability.
