MEER (Mirrors for Earth's Energy Rebalancing) is a nonprofit developing safe, affordable and equitable surface-cooling technologies. Our mission is to cool the Earth and protect vulnerable communities using passive, reflective and radiative materials — with a focus on partnerships in the Global South.
Scientific detail
MEER combines materials R&D (reflective PET, bamboo–PET composites, reservoir covers), scientific platforms (HeatLens, HESTIA, PYROX) and community-partnered deployment to scale surface-based cooling as adaptive mitigation. Founded in 2021 by Dr. Ye Tao, MEER frames its work as 'ground engineering' — a low-risk, reversible complement to decarbonization and atmospheric climate interventions.
