Bamboo–PET Composite
Bamboo grows quickly and stores carbon as it does. Combined with reflective PET film it produces a lightweight, low-cost roofing system that both cools buildings and locks up CO₂.
Scientific detail
MEER's bamboo–PET composite pairs the structural and carbon-sequestration properties of bamboo with the high solar reflectance and thermal emittance of metallised/diffuse PET. Field deployments in Sierra Leone and India have recorded indoor temperature reductions of up to 10 °C compared with tin roofs, while embodied carbon is offset by bamboo growth over the material's lifecycle.
