The argument

I want to talk about cooling — not as an abstract goal, but as something people in hot regions need in the next few years.
5:00The planet absorbs more energy than it releases. That imbalance is the heat we feel, and it shows up first at the surface.
12:00Every proposed solution has to pass a simple test: is there enough energy and enough material in the world to do it at the required scale?
19:00Surface-based solar reflectors pass that test. They reflect sunlight before it becomes heat, and they do not need power to operate.
26:00We should begin in the regions that are already heat-stressed, because that is where the human benefit per unit of effort is highest.

About the speaker
Founder and Director · Mirrors for Earth's Energy Rebalancing (MEER)
Dr. Ye Tao is a physicist and the founder of MEER. Trained at Harvard University, where he worked on precision measurement and nanoscale imaging, he now leads research and field deployment of reflective surface cooling — using mirrors, reflective coatings and shading structures to reduce the heat load on people, crops and buildings. His work spans radiative physics, materials engineering, public health and community-scale implementation in Sierra Leone, India, China, Tanzania and the United States.
