MEER in India: a two-week workshop at Fergusson College
Dr. Ye Tao delivered a lecture at Fergusson College, Pune on 16 September 2023, followed by a two-week workshop on MEER sheet science, safety and rooftop application.
Students explored the physics of the MEER sheet, safe handling, rooftop application and the adaptations needed for the curved roofs common across Indian housing.
Ten reflective sheeting samples were produced using different application techniques and tested against paper and white paint in both humid and hot conditions.
The workshop team surveyed Hanuman Nagar in Pune twice — first to analyze the site, then with a Google Form survey capturing household income, electricity use, heat impacts and openness to a reflective roof. Sensors and a weather station were installed on the college rooftop, with observations running for two months.
