Climate policy has understandably focused on reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Alongside that essential work, scientists are increasingly recognizing the importance of Earth's overall energy balance and the role of planetary reflectivity in influencing global temperatures.
The Albedo Accord is a proposed international framework that could one day complement existing climate agreements by encouraging cooperation on protecting and restoring Earth's reflectivity. It is a proposal — not an existing treaty — representing one possible direction for future climate governance.
