Urban Cooling Ahmedabad
Bringing relief to those suffering from the heat
The first of a planned series of projects slated for global deployment, MEER's Urban Cooling Ahmedabad is a heat adaptation project designed to make dwellings and other structures more livable in places where people are suffering. Urban Cooling will first take place in Ahmedabad, India and involves the installation of solar reflectors on the rooftops of the homes of people who cannot afford any other means of regulating the temperature.
Those contributing the least to warming suffer most
The heat in India can be unbearable. In the western city of Ahmedabad, temperatures can remain over 40°C/104°F in the evening, when people are trying to sleep. This is not something people just get used to. It is something they must endure. They and others like them suffer the most from global warming, while being the least responsible for GHG pollution.
With help from Ahmedabad University and a local non-profit housing trust, MEER plans to install solar reflectors on a number of rooftops to bring immediate, free relief to suffering families. The project will record and deliver valuable data as well, to help MEER quantify, develop and deploy similar types of projects around the world.

With just US $30,000 the project will be well-funded, covering the treatment of several homes, the monitoring and collection of data on the project, the making of a short film and more.
